Cosmetic & Fragrance

One sense wearing two masks.

Flavour is tasted and perceived in the mouth; fragrance is felt with the nose. They cannot be treated as separate things — what we call flavour is very largely smell.

Scent and taste are the same argument, made twice

KGN Chemicals is a leading supplier of standard and custom cosmetic flavour and fragrance solutions. The difference between the two is where they are perceived: flavour is tasted in the mouth, fragrance is felt with the nose.

But they cannot be considered separate entities. Flavour is often the result of both taste and smell together, and fragrance has a major influence on flavour — which is why a flavour house is the right place to have a scent composed.

We compose for products people wear all day. That is a longer test than a mouthful.

KGN creates flavours and fragrances for products such as body creams, beauty products, perfumes and deodorants. Each carries its own constraints — a cream has to hold its scent through an emulsion, a deodorant through alcohol and aluminium salts, a perfume through hours of wear on skin that is different on every person.

Every composition is developed in our own flavour house in Gauteng by qualified flavourists, and made to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 22000:2005 standards, Halaal certified.
