Question
Can you match a flavour we already use?
Usually, yes. Matching is a large part of what a flavour house does — and how close we get depends on what you can tell us about the product it is going into.
Yes, and it is one of the most common briefs we get. A supplier changes, an import becomes unreliable, a price moves, or a product is being made in a new market and the original flavour cannot come with it.
What matters is that a match is a match in your product, not in a beaker. The same flavour behaves differently in a still drink and a carbonated one, in full-fat and reduced-fat dairy, at pH 3 and pH 4, pasteurised or not. So the useful thing to send us is not only the flavour you are using — it is the finished product, the base it goes into, the dose, and the process it has to survive.
What we will ask you for
- The product itself, and the current flavour if you can supply it
- Your base formulation, or as much of it as you are able to share
- The process it goes through — heat, shear, carbonation, fill temperature
- Shelf life, packaging, and the market it is sold in
- What you like about the current flavour, and what you would change
That last one is worth more than it sounds. A surprising number of matching briefs end up somewhere better than the original, because the first honest conversation about it reveals that nobody actually liked the finish.
If your formulation is commercially sensitive, say so before you send anything and we will put a confidentiality agreement in place first.
