Question

What does your Halaal certification actually cover?

· 1 min read

It covers our materials and our manufacturing — not, by itself, your finished product. Here is where the line sits, and why you should ask us for the current certificate rather than relying on a website.

Our Halaal certification applies to KGN Chemicals: the raw materials we use, how we store and handle them, and how we manufacture. It means the flavour we supply you is certified.

It does not automatically certify your product. Your finished product contains other ingredients from other suppliers, made on your equipment, in your facility. Certification of your product is a separate matter between you and a certifying authority — though a certified ingredient is one of the things they will want to see.

Two things follow from that:

  • Ask us for the current certificate. Certifications have validity periods. Do not rely on a claim on a website — including ours — if it matters to your decision. We will send you the live document.
  • Tell us if it matters before development starts. Constraining the palette at the beginning is straightforward. Discovering at approval that a material has to come out, and rebalancing the formulation around its absence, is a second development.

The same applies to our ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 22000:2005 standards: they describe how we run, and they are available for you to inspect.
